Learning About Manta Rays with Ocean Keeper Club

On 21 February 2026, Coral Triangle Center successfully held the eighth session of the 3rd batch of Ocean Keeper Club (OKC), titled “Pari Manta si Layangan Laut” (Manta Rays the “Kites” of The Ocean). The session brought together 67 enthusiastic students from six partner schools to learn more about one of the ocean’s most fascinating animals, the manta ray.
The session became even more special with the presence of Wira Sanjaya, CTC’s Bali Portfolio Manager, who joined as the guest speaker. Together with Max and Mindy, the Ocean Keeper Club mascots, he shared insights and personal stories about manta rays, their behavior, and their important role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. Through engaging storytelling and interactive discussions, students were introduced to the unique characteristics of manta rays and the challenges these gentle giants face in the wild.

Participants showed great curiosity and excitement throughout the session. Many eagerly asked questions and shared their thoughts about ocean conservation. The learning experience continued outdoors with interactive games, where they were divided into groups representing the giant manta ray and the reef manta ray. Through fun and collaborative play, they learned about the differences between these two species while strengthening teamwork and communication skills.

The Ocean Keeper Club sessions are designed not only to share knowledge but also to inspire young ocean advocates. By combining science, storytelling, and hands-on activities, the program encourages students to connect more deeply with the ocean and understand the importance of protecting marine life.

This eighth session reflected the spirit that the OKC team hopes to nurture in these young guardians: curiosity about the marine world, appreciation for its biodiversity, and a growing commitment to safeguarding our oceans for future generations.
