Building Environmental Awareness Through Interactive Learning and Outdoor Activities

On Saturday, May 23, 2026, Ocean Keeper Club (OKC) successfully concluded the third batch with Session 11, themed “Awas Ada Sampah Plastik (Bagian 2)” or “Beware of Plastic Waste (Part 2).” The session brought together 56 enthusiastic students for a day of interactive learning, outdoor exploration, and hands-on environmental activities that strengthened their understanding of waste management and sustainable living.
The session opened with an energetic waste-sorting challenge, where students worked in teams to identify and separate organic and non-organic waste. Through lively discussions and collaborative problem-solving, participants learned that proper waste segregation is one of the most important steps in reducing pollution and ensuring waste is managed responsibly. The activity also encouraged teamwork, communication, and critical thinking as students tackled real-life waste management scenarios.

Learning then moved outdoors, allowing participants to connect environmental concepts with practical action. One of the session highlights was a composting activity, where students discovered how fallen leaves and other organic materials can be transformed into nutrient-rich compost. By taking part in the process themselves, they gained a deeper appreciation for how organic waste can be recycled into valuable resources that support healthy soil and plant growth.

The exploration continued at the Swirl Garden, where students learned about sustainable gardening and local food production. Participants harvested Brazilian spinach and discussed the benefits of growing edible plants using environmentally friendly practices. This hands-on experience helped them understand the link between healthy ecosystems, sustainable food sources, and everyday actions that contribute to a greener future.
Throughout the day, students actively participated in discussions, group activities, and practical exercises that reinforced key messages about reducing waste and protecting the environment. By combining play-based learning with real-world experiences, the session encouraged participants to see themselves as environmental stewards capable of making positive changes in their communities.

The session concluded with a celebratory group photo, marking not only the end of an inspiring day but also the completion of the third OKC batch. While Session 11 marked the end of the learning journey, there is still one special milestone ahead: the graduation ceremony. This upcoming event will celebrate the students’ achievements, recognize their dedication throughout the program, and officially welcome them as Ocean Keeper Club graduates.
Together, the final session and the upcoming graduation serve as meaningful reminders that small actions, when taken consistently, can create a lasting impact for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
