Journey Into The Deep Sea with Ocean Keeper Club

On March 14, 2026, Ocean Keeper Club (OKC) Session 9 invited young learners to journey into one of the most mysterious parts of our planet through a session titled Menjelajahi Laut Dalam or Exploring the Deep Sea. The session welcomed 33 enthusiastic children, accompanied by four teachers, for a day filled with discovery, curiosity, and excitement about the wonders hidden far beneath the ocean’s surface.
The learning adventure was guided by the beloved OKC icons, Max, Mindy, and Octa, who helped bring the deep sea to life in a fun and engaging way. Together, they led participants into a fascinating exploration of a world that many of the children had never encountered before. For most of them, the deep ocean was a distant and unfamiliar place, making every new fact and image feel like a surprising discovery.

One of the highlights of the session was the interactive exploration of the ocean’s layers using the neal.fun website. Through this visual and engaging tool, participants were able to travel virtually from the sunlit surface waters down to the darkest depths of the abyss. As the journey continued deeper, the children learned how sunlight gradually disappears, pressure increases, and temperatures drop, creating unique habitats where only specially adapted creatures can survive. They were especially fascinated by the extraordinary animals that inhabit these deep-sea zones. From glowing bioluminescent fish to unusual jellyfish and giant squid, the session introduced species that felt almost alien compared to the marine life they already knew. Some participants excitedly recognized the dumbo octopus, a favorite among young ocean enthusiasts. They shared how they had previously encountered this adorable deep-sea creature during a special OKC event with OceanX Portal, showing how past learning experiences continue to spark curiosity.

Throughout the session, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and active participation. The children eagerly asked questions, shared what they already knew, and expressed their interest in how little of the deep ocean has actually been explored by humans. This realization became one of the most important takeaways of the day. There is still so much of the deep ocean waiting to be discovered, and by the end of the session, participants left with more than just new knowledge. They gained a sense of wonder about the ocean and a deeper appreciation for the importance of protecting marine ecosystems, even those we rarely see. Learning about the deep sea helps children understand that the ocean is vast, interconnected, and full of life that depends on our care.

Through sessions like this, OKC hopes to nurture curiosity, inspire lifelong learning, and encourage young Ocean Keepers to remain passionate about protecting the seas. The deep ocean may be far away, but the sense of responsibility to care for it can begin here, with knowledge, curiosity, and a love for the ocean.
