CTC Strengthens Commitment to Sustainable Marine Tourism through Green Fins
In June, 2025, CTC successfully conducted a series of Green Fins assessments for two dive centers in Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area (MPA) and one from Karangasem Regency. These efforts mark our commitment in promoting sustainable diving practices and marine conservation in Indonesia.
The first assessment started on June 10 in Nusa Lembongan, where Legend Diving welcomed CTC’s Green Fins Assessors with enthusiasm. Over the years, this operator has steadily embraced more responsible practices, and their efforts have shown real progress. On June 12, the team continued to Nusa Penida to meet with Legend Diving Penida. Similar to the previous operator, they also demonstrated progress in practicing sustainability in both diving and snorkeling. Following the assessment, the team agreed to further strengthen their practices, particularly by informing guests about marine protected sites and associated rules, as well as implementing a non-toxic sunscreen policy during diving and snorkeling activities. The assessment journey concluded on June 19–20 in Karangasem Regency, where Gangga Divers at Lotus Bungalow Candidasa warmly welcomed our team to the Green Fins process.
Since 2018, in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Reef World Foundation (RWF), CTC has been the national coordinator for Green Fins in Indonesia. The main responsibilities are to assess and train the dive and snorkel operators to be active Green Fins members. As Green Fins members, dive operators are required to implement environmentally friendly codes of conduct. Hence, since December 2023, CTC has been qualified to train and certify individuals within the country, further building capacity for this initiative to continue its expansion in Indonesia.
With CTC’s continued role as the national coordinator, we are confident that more operators across Indonesia will join this movement and prove that sustainable tourism and marine conservation can go hand in hand.
